In Octber 2020 packages containing essential items were being distributed to 415 families in the refugee camps in Lebanon.
Families have been the worst hit by the economic crisis that has brought the land of the Cedars to its knees - bankrupt since the beginning of the year and battling persistent political instability. As if this dismal state of affairs weren’t enough, the Covid 19 pandemic arrived and the subsequent lockdown that has left thousands of non-contracted Palestinian workers without an income. With our local partner, the NISCVT association Beit Atfal Assumoud, and the approval of the officers of the Waldensian Church, we have therefore decided to allocate a part of the funds that would normally be destined for the musical education projects to help these families.
In an emergency such as this it was an easy choice to make. Assumoud is resuming the activities and we are fully aware that in addition to the everyday problems of families and a community living in such close proximity, there are new issues emerging as a result of the stringent measures necessitated by the pandemic.
